Churches Together in Harton, South Shields

As part of Churches Together South Tyneside, the churches in Harton have a long history of friendship and collaboration. Rooted in a shared Christian faith, they come together regularly to support one another, serve the local community, and witness to God’s love in South Shields.
The churches in Harton have been meeting together for over thirty years. After a break during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group joyfully resumed regular gatherings in 2022, continuing their tradition of unity in action.

Meeting, Sharing, Supporting

Every 6–8 weeks, a small group of clergy and church members meet to share a meal, exchange updates from their congregations, and reflect on current events. These gatherings also provide a link with the wider Churches Together South Tyneside network.

Together, they have supported a number of local and seasonal initiatives:

  • Love Christmas – delivering bags of food and toys to 350 local families in partnership with food banks and schools
  • Carol Singing at The Nook – spreading joy and community spirit through song
  • World Day of Prayer – joining Christians around the world in shared prayer
  • A Maundy Meal – marking Holy Week with reflection and fellowship
  • Exploring Lent Through Art – a thoughtful five-week series led by Rev Jane Rowell
